BigCommerce

A SaaS ecommerce platform primarily marketed to small businesses, BigCommerce seeks to make a move up market by targeting prospects in the mid-market and enterprise arena. As a result, the BigCommerce brand needed a refresh and the BigCommerce website needed a complete restructuring and redesign to better cater to that audience.

After conducting preliminary research and competitive analysis, we partnered with key stakeholders throughout the business to obtain as much data as possible to help guide our process. As a result, we designed a sophisticated new brand system that features:

  • An expanded and refined color hierarchy with a unique set of gradients

  • A clearer typographical hierarchy

  • Vibrant imagery featuring relevant and recognizable ecommerce products

  • UI collages that illustrate the platform’s offerings

  • Photography featuring real BigCommerce employees

  • Bold iconography to illustrate more abstract ideas

A major part of this project involved applying the new brand visuals to BigCommerce’s website while addressing the lack of organized messaging and content for the mid-market and enterprise audience. Analytics and feedback highlighted several key areas of focus needed to successfully reach this audience including product solutions categorized by industry and use case, product features and services, customer case studies, and partner networks. We focused on creating a cohesive experience by aligning the information architecture with the needs of our end-users. We also developed a robust new design system complete with components, blocks, layouts, and templates that could be used for both core web experiences and demand marketing efforts.

Here’s a quick look at some of the hard work that went in to this project. Featured below is a photo I took of one of our team whiteboarding/brainstorming sessions, some of our initial mood boards, some early wireframes for the website, an unused concept, and a before and after comparison of the website. Enjoy!
